Along the way, his partnership with David Porter produced some of the biggest songs of the soul era before Hayes stepped into the spotlight with his groundbreaking Hot Buttered Soul.
We'll follow his journey through soul, funk, gospel, and the blues, all the way to his Academy Award-winning work on Shaft and the unmistakable “Theme from Shaft.” We'll also explore Hayes' influence on generations of musicians and why his music belongs in the ongoing story of the blues.
